American Football Betting at William Hill

NFL Betting Markets
Before the start of the season, we have NFL betting markets on who will win the NFC, the AFC and, of course, the Super Bowl.
You can also bet on player awards, including who will be MVP at the end of the season.
Once the season begins, you can bet on every match, whether that be a straight win (money line markets) bet or a handicap bet.
NFL handicap betting
Handicap betting – also known as point spreads or betting lines – is a popular way to bet on American football when there is a strong favourite.
How does NFL handicap betting work?
You predict which side of a given margin you think a game will end on. Imagine the Packers are facing the Ravens. The handicap for the game is listed as: Packers -8.5 @ 1.94 and Ravens +8.5 @ 1.94.
• The Packers are favourites as they are the minus handicap.
• If you think the Packers will win by more than 8.5 points (9 points or more) then you would place a bet on them at -8.5 points.
• If you fancy the Ravens to win or, at the very least, not to lose by more than 8.5 points (8 points or less), then you would place a bet on them at +8.5 points.
How is an NFL handicap bet settled?
Let’s say the Packers beat the Ravens 40-20.
• If you bet on the Packers -8.5, then you deduct 8.5 points from their final score.
• In this case that would leave us with an adjusted final score of Packers 31.5 Ravens 20, meaning your bet is good.
• If you bet on Baltimore +8.5 points, you add 8.5 points to their final score, giving us an adjusted final score of Packers 40 Ravens 28.5.
• In this case, even with the handicap added to the Ravens’ score, the Packers still win. So, the bet is a losing bet.
NFL Draft betting odds
We’ll also have odds on the NFL draft at the end of April. The best newly-eligible players – usually from college football – are selected by the 32 teams across seven rounds. Who will be the number one pick?
NFL in-play betting
When the season starts, we’ll also have in-play betting. A whole host of NFL betting odds are available for every game.
College Football betting odds
If college football is your thing, you can also bet on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). We have markets during the season, including the winner of the Heisman Memorial Trophy for the MVP.
• Touchdown – when a player reaches the zones at the either end of the pitch.
• Passing yards – how far a quarterback has thrown the ball in successful passes.
• Field goal – after every touchdown, the special teams squad enter the pitch to kick an extra point. Kicking the ball through the posts is a field goal.
• Downs – a unit of a game. Each team has four downs to make as much ground as they can. If a team makes 10 yards, they start their run of four downs again.
NFL betting tips
• Check the form. How is a team playing? Are they on an unbeaten run? Have they been on a losing streak?
• Injuries. Is the star quarterback available? Will the wide receiver start? It’s important to know who will be playing.
• Conditions. Are they playing in the heat of Miami or in the heavy snow of Buffalo?
• Check the stats. Know how a team or a player has been performing? How many touchdowns have they had? How many yards do they gain? There are plenty of stats out there to help.
